Current Positions
Sir Douglas Flint is Chairman of Standard Life Aberdeen plc, one of Europe’s largest investment companies, and is Chairman of IP Group plc which helps to create, build and support outstanding intellectual property-based companies primarily through collaboration with partner universities and research establishments. He is also a member of the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s international advisory panel and on the Board of the International Chamber of Commerce UK. He is the UK Treasury’s Special Envoy to China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
Additionally, he is Chairman of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Just Finance Foundation, a Director of the Centre for Policy Studies, on the Global Advisory Council of Motive Partners, a fintech specialist investment platform, Chairman of the Hong Kong Association, Chairman of the Corporate Board of Cancer Research UK and a trustee of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
Industry Knowledge
Sir Douglas served as Chairman of HSBC Holdings plc from 2010 until October 2017. For 15 years prior to this he was HSBC’s Group Finance Director, joining from KPMG where he was a Partner. Between 2005 and 2011 he was also a Non-Executive Director of BP plc.
Sir Douglas was Chairman of the Institute of International Finance from June 2012 to December 2016 and was a member of both the Mayor of Beijing’s and the Mayor of Shanghai’s International Business Leaders’ Advisory Councils; he was also a member of the International Advisory Board of the China Europe International Business School, Shanghai. He was an independent external member of the Financial Services Trade and Investment Board in the UK and has been, by invitation from the then Prime Minister, a British Business Ambassador.
In 2017 he was appointed by the Chancellor as Special Envoy to China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
