DAME Alison Carnwath

Dame Alison Carnwath is a Chartered Accountant with a background in Investment Banking.

She commenced working with Peat Marwick before moving on to Lloyds Bank International.

Until 1993 she was a Director of J. Henry Schroder Wagg & Co. Ltd., the investment banking subsidiary of Schroders plc, specialising in advisory, merger and defence work for leading UK companies and subsequently a Senior Partner in the Phoenix Partnership (corporate advisory and private equity business acquired by DLJ in 1997).

Board Mandates

Dame Alison is Chairman of Land Securities since November 2008.

She is currently Non-Executive Director with Zurich Insurance Group AG, an Independent Director of Paccar Inc., and became a Non-Executive Director of BASF SE in May 2014.

Dame Alison is also a member of the Takeover Panel in the UK.

She stepped down from the boards of Barclays plc in July 2012 and of Man Group in May 2013 (after 12 years).

Dame Alison is a Senior Advisor for Evercore Partners.

Between 1988 and May 2008 she was a Non-Executive Director of Cullen's Holdings Ltd., Sears Ltd., Dwr Cymru Cyfyngedig, Friends Provident plc, ManWeb plc, Arcadia Group plc and Gallaher Group. She was also Chairman of Vitec Group between 2000 and 2005, and of MF Global between 2007 and 2010.


Dame Alison has an honorary doctorate of Law from Reading University as well as an honorary degree from Exeter University

She is listed in 'Times of London' as being in the top 100 most influential directors in the UK.
